Coming hot out of the gates, we’ve got another Bar Breakdown Devotional. Today we’re focusing on nobigdyl.’s verse from the indie tribe. album song “BELOW THE BELT FREESTYLE.”
“A mustard seed is what you need, huh / Little livin’ water plus the sun will grow a tree”
In addition to being an incredible bar, dyl’ cleverly uses the act of a seed being watered, which then grows into a tree to give us an awesome depiction of Matthew 17:20 and the metaphor of Jesus being the living water as referenced many times throughout scripture.
In Matthew 17:20, Jesus tells us, “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move…”.
So here we have step one; the seed. Now we must water the “seed,” our faith, with the living water, Jesus Christ. When we consistently water our faith with God’s word and put all our hope in Jesus, we prosper and our roots begin to dig deep into our foundation; eventually sprouting upwards and flourishing into a mighty tree. From that tree, we begin to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit and walk as faithful children of God so that the world may see our works. Not so that we may boast but to show others the light and strength that Christ blesses, humbles, and renews us with every day.
